The Christmas decorations in Mount Pleasant are absolutely beautiful! We’re hoping that MP can build on this and make our little city the Christmas Capitol of East Texas. Go out and enjoy the lights on the square. If you’re hankering for a corndog and funnel cake, I hear they’re available! Visit the stores and restaurants that are open. Go online and schedule a carriage ride. This has been a tough year for everyone, so take advantage of a chance to enjoy this special season.
The library is ready for Christmas. If, like me, you read a Christmas book in December, you’ll find pages and pages of them in our catalog. I glanced at the list and jotted down just a few of the titles including Christmas Bliss by Mary Kay Andrews, Christmas Letters, 1225 Christmas Tree Lane, Alaskan Holiday, Angels at the Table, Call Me Mrs. Miracle, Cedar Grove Christmas by Debbie Macomber, 19th Christmas by James Patterson, Amish Christmas by Cynthis Keller, Colorado Christmas and Frontier Christmas by William Johnstone, Christmas Blessing by Katherine Spencer, Candlelight Christmas and Lakeshore Christmas by Susan Wiggs, Christmas Treasure by Thomas Kincaid, Skipping Christmas by John Grisham, Christmas Cake Murder, Christmas Cupcake Murder and Christmas Carmel Murder by Joanne Fluke, Christmas Candle by Max Lucado, Christmas List by Richard Paul Evans, and the list goes on and on and on. Come by and get your Christmas fix.
Some of our Christmas DVDs include “The Homecoming”, “Peanuts Christmas Story”, “Story of Silent Night”, “Elf”, “Miracle on 34th Street”, “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”. There are more. Browse the selections.
I just began and am enjoying Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce. It’s a gem of a book set in 1950. Miss Benson is a spinster teacher who chucks everything to follow a childhood dream to discover the Golden Beetle of New Caledonia. This charming book will have you laughing, cheering for Miss Benson and, hopefully, believing in your own dreams.
I tried to stop reading Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache books when I finished number nine. Set a goal to at least read the first nine. That book brings to a head so much of what has been brewing in the earlier books. My plan was to abandon the series and read something else, but I couldn’t do it. Besides Miss Benson’s Beetle, I’m reading The Long Way Home, number 10 in the series. Looks like I’m an addict.
While it’s true we’ve had to halt most of our in-person programs due to Covid, we are still safely hosting Preschool Story Time at 11 each Tuesday morning. Bring your little ones and enjoy a story and a craft.
Curbside or in the building, we look forward to seeing you at the library. Happy reading!
