This department is responsible for operation and
maintenance of the city's surface water treatment plant that has a
capacity of 12 million gallons/day (MGD) and an average daily production
of 7.4 MGD. The plant is a standard process with five treatment stages
known as flocculation, sedimentation, clarification, filtration, and
disinfection. The primary function of the water treatment plant staff
is to pump a sufficient quantity of water from the city's source and
treat it to meet or exceed all federal and state regulations and guidelines.
Once all standards are met the treated water enters the distribution
system for delivery to the consumer. For additional information on
testing and results see the drinking water quality report.
The City of Mount Pleasant holds a total of 16,598
acre-feet/year in water rights in Lake Bob Sandlin, Lake Tankersly,
and Lake Cypress Springs. In addition to the treatment plant, staff
also maintains the raw water pumping facilities including inlet
structures and pumping equipment, three elevated storage tanks with
a capacity of 1.8 MG, and four ground storage tanks with a capacity
of 4.3 MG.
The City of Mount Pleasant is dedicated to a program
of water conservation and will be glad to provide information and
material on this subject by request. Educational tours of the plant
may be available upon request.
