This
department is responsible for maintaining and operating the Southside
Wastewater Treatment Plant, a 2.9 million gallon/day (MGD) extended
aeration, activated sludge plant with average daily flows of 2.0 MGD.
The plant receives wastewater from the collection system and treats
it in accordance with state and federal regulations and permitting
guidelines. The wastewater plant recycles effluent for plant production
and wash down and continues to seek other areas for effluent reuse.
This department also operates a laboratory responsible for process
analysis and control, hauls sludge, and maintains a land application
sludge disposal site. Educational tours may be available upon request.
