S.W.A.T. Emergency Response Unit
The Mount Pleasant Police Department has a fully trained and fully equipped tactical team. The tactical team has up to 11 members and is directed by a Team Commander. The team maintains a monthly training schedule to prepare for a variety of emergency situations including hostage rescue, barricaded persons, manhunts, armed robberies and other related calls for police service. All team members have been trained at either Houston Police Department, Dallas Police Department, Paris Police Department, TEEX, or Garland Police Department S.W.A.T. School.

Canine (K-9) Team

The Mount Pleasant Police Department K-9 program started in October 2006 and has been highly successful. The team consists of Handler Officer Joshua Hatfield and Rico, a Belgian Malinois. Rico is dual cerified in narcotics detection and tracking of persons. The second K-9 team consists of Handler Officer Kevin Bisnette and Vox, a Belgian Malinois. Vox is certified in narcotics and handler protection. Vox joined the team in February 2010.

 

Bicycle Unit
Our Bicycle Unit consists of six bicycles and six volunteer officers. They use the bicycles for special events, working the parks and building checks. This allows the officers to meet the public in person instead of driving by in a patrol car.

Honor Guard
The Mount Pleasant Police Department's Honor Guard is an elite team of eight members. The team presents colors at special ceremonies. The team also provides appropriate military honors at funerals of peace officers. These honors include; a flag folding ceremony, 21 gun salute and performing the duties of sentries. In addition, the Honor Guard has provided security for visiting dignitaries.

Special Crimes Unit

The Mount Pleasant Police Department Special Crimes Unit was created to focus on narcotics / narcotics trafficking, gambling, prostitution, money laundering, armed robbery and any other major crimes that occur within the City. The Special Crimes Unit utilizes resources to assist the patrol and criminal investigations division with solving other crimes expediently.
