Police Officer qualifications include:

• Must be a U. S. citizen at least 21 years old
• High school diploma – college hours preferred
• Not have been convicted of a crime above a Class C misdemeanor in the last 10 years, and not currently on court-ordered supervision or probation
• Texas Peace officer license preferred (some applicants may be accepted and put through the police academy)
• Good driving history
• No alcohol or drug abuse
• Weight must be proportionate to height
• Other qualifications established by law and/or department policy

Communication Officer qualifications include:

• At least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or GED
• Not have been convicted of a crime above a Class C misdemeanor in the last 10 years, and not currently on court-ordered supervision or probation
• Good driving history
• No alcohol or drug abuse

Hiring process for the police department may include, depending on experience and/or certification(s):

• Written examination including writing exercise
• Physical Ability Test (police officer applicants only)
• Background Investigation
• Interview Board
• Psychological testing (police officer applicants only)
• Physical exam including drug screen
