The
Mount Pleasant Police Department sponsors a Citizen's Police Academy
at least once a year, usually in the spring and/or fall. The Citizen's
Police Academy is a unique opportunity
for both the Police Department and the citizens. This program is
designed
to educate the citizens in our community so that they will have a
better understanding of what we do and why we do it. This program
consists of 10 weeks of classroom lectures, ride-along programs and
hands-on exercises. Program topics include:
- Patrol Duties
- Traffic
- Accident Investigation
- Traffic Stops (Felony and Non-Felony)
- Texas Penal Code
- Use of Force
- Judicial Systems
- Criminal Investigations
- Sexual Assault
- Dispatch
- Community Policing
- Child Abuse
- Gangs
- Juvenile Law
- Narcotics
- Firing Range
- S.W.A.T. Tactics
The Citizen's Police Academy classes are held one
evening per week. The citizens are required to ride at least four
hours and complete at least two hours of dispatch time prior to
graduating. Once the citizens complete the program, they become
a part of the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association, where
they continue to have interaction with, and provide support to the
Police Department.
