Welcome, Teens! Come in, kick back,
and stay a while! You’ll find more young adult books and
materials, programs, volunteer opportunities, and events than
ever before! Whether reading for enjoyment or researching assignments,
Mount Pleasant Public Library can help.
BOOKS AND MATERIALS
MPPL began purchasing books and materials from various
young adult reading lists in 2002, and the collection is growing
daily! Books and materials may be found in both the juvenile and
adult sections of the library, and are usually marked with a YA
spine label. Check the card catalog for locations! Several lists
are also available downstairs to help in choosing books.
Local and regional newspapers and magazines
are available for in-house use. Magazines of interest to young adults
may be found in both areas, and include
- Seventeen
- Action and Batman Comics
- Teen People
- Motor Trends

Books on cassette or CD, and movies
on videocassette or dvd are also available for checkout.

both in the reference section and through several computer programs.

SERVICES
Staff assistance in locating materials
and information is available at the main desk and in the Youth Services
Department.
Interlibrary Loans are an economical
way to borrow additional resources from other libraries. Library
patrons may request books and materials by completing a form at
the main desk. If the book/material is available for lending, it
will be shipped to our library, and may be borrowed by the patron
for two weeks. The borrowing patron pays postage back to the lending
library.
Assignment Alerts are intended to
ensure that materials and books needed for projects and assignments
will be available at the library for all students. By completing
a form and giving at least two weeks notice, teachers may request
that relevant items be put on temporary reserve for use at the library.
HOMEWORK FIRST PROGRAM Still
need something "extra" to finish up that assignment? The library's
Homework First program can help! In-house reference materials,
internet access*, and some basic supplies are available each Monday
thru Thursday after school to assist in completing projects.
Basic supplies such as pencils, paper, scissors,
etc. are provided in limited quantities. Students are encouraged
to bring their own supplies.
Internet access is now available in the children's
area each weekday afternoon to assist in completing assignments.
Children and teens under the age of eighteen years must be accompanied
by an adult in order to access the internet.
- Computers in the Youth Services area are reserved for use
by children and young adults.
- Access to
email accounts, online games and music, etc. is not allowed.
- Adult patrons may access the internet at computers on the
main floor.
- All patrons under the age of eighteen must be accompanied
by an adult when accessing the internet.
Library staff must be present in the YS area to access the
internet. If, for any reason, staff is not available, computers
on the main floor may be used.
