Recycling Guidelines

The City of Mount Pleasant recycling facility is located at the City Service Center at 1412 North Washington Avenue. The following information can help you decide which items to bring to the recycling center, and how to properly prepare them.

The Recycle facility is for use of City of Mount Pleasant Residents. Proof of residency is required.
Acceptable verification includes a valid Driver's License or Current Water Bill.

HOURS: 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday excluding City Holidays.

Paper Recycling

DO recycle:
  • Cardboard
  • Food and beverage boxes
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines
  • Other paper products
  • Phone books

Flatten all boxes before placing in recycling bin!

DO NOT recycle:
  • Carbon paper
  • Hard cover books

Aluminum & Metal Cans

Our facility does not accept Aluminum or Metal cans. There are scrap yard locations in Mt. Pleasant that will pay for these items.

Motor oil

You can recycle motor oil by pouring it into the oil bin at the facility.

Unacceptable Items

At this time, we do not have the facilities to recycle the following items:
  • Automotive product cans
  • Disposable aluminum plates
  • Glass bottles
  • Paint cans
    (Can be dried and placed in regular trash receptacles)
  • Aluminum pie tins
  • Plastic Bottles
  • Scrap metal
