We
are pleased to announce that the Mount Pleasant Fire Department is
recruiting enthusiastic individuals to participate in our Citizen
Fire Academy. To be eligible to attend the Academy, participants must
be at least 18 years old and live or work in Titus County. We would
like very much to include you as one of the "cadets" in
this class.
The Citizen Fire Academy is a twelve-week program
designed to provide the public with a better understanding of the
services provided by their fire department. Academy members will
meet three hours per week. A field day at the fire department's
drill house will also be held on a Saturday at the end of the academy
and a graduation ceremony will be held after that. The program will
consist of classroom and "hands-on" instruction. The following
topics will be covered:
Orientation
- Emergency Management/EOC Ops
- Fire Behavior/ICS/Personnel Accountability
- Pre-Fire Planning/Fire Inspections/Pub Ed/Fire Investigations
- SCBA/FF Safety
- Apparatus Familiarization
- Rope Rescue/Rapelling/Confined Space
- Rope Rescue/Rappelling/Confined Space
- Pump Ops/Hydraulics/Fire Streams/ Initial Attack Ops
- Vehicle Extrication
- Fire Ground Ops/ventilation/Forcible Entry/loss Control
- Live Fire Evolutions
- Wildland Fires/Vehicle fires or HAZ-MAT
- Graduation Ceremony
To graduate, students must attend at least nine sessions
and spend at least six hours in the "Station Visit/Ride-Out"
Program. Graduates of this program will not be firefighters, but
will be better-informed citizens.
Class size will be limited. We believe the class will
be a rewarding and educational experience for everyone involved.
