What determines the amount of my water bill?
Your
water bill is made up of three parts, water, sewer, and garbage collection.
Your water usage is recorded on your individual meter, which is read
monthly. See water and sewer rates.
For further information call the water office at 903-575-4000.
I looked in my meter box and cannot even see the meter
for the dirt accumulation. How can the meter be read?
Since
your water meter is located below ground level it is subject to
accumulations of dirt, leaves, ant beds, etc. The meter reader removes
the accumulation in order to make a reading. It is normal between
readings for rain or irrigation water to cause continual accumulation
of debris.
Does the city add fluoride to the water?
No.
The city does not add fluoride to our treated water at this time.
The city's water supply has very little naturally occurring fluoride,
approximately 0.01 mg/l.
Is our water hard and what is the hardness?
No.
Our water is considered soft, averaging a hardness of 40 mg/l or
2.34 grains/gallon, and 60 mg/l (3.5 grains/gallon) or less is considered
soft.
Where does the water we use come from?
The
majority of water used in Mount Pleasant comes from Lake Bob Sandlin
and is treated at the water treatment plant. Other sources include
Lake Tankersly and Lake Cypress Springs.
Is the water tested?
Absolutely.
Water treatment staff continually tests for quality control. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
also tests periodically. For more information on testing and test
results see the drinking water quality
report on our forms page.
What is the sodium content of the water?
The
sodium content of the water averages about 20 mg/l.
If my sewer stops up should I call a plumber or the city
first?
Call
the city first. We will come and check the system and determine
if it is a city stoppage or the homeowner's problem.
How do I obtain a new or additional water or sewer tap
and what do they cost?
Fill
out a utility service application
at the service center, and a customer service representative will
assist you with pricing details based on the tap location and size.
