How long do I have to take care of my ticket with the City of Mount
Pleasant?
You
have 10 days from the date you received your ticket to appear at Municipal
Court.
Do I have to appear in Municipal Court?
No.
You may contact the court and ask the amount of your fine so that
you can mail the fine. When the court receives your payment in the
mail, we will enter a plea of no contest, which has a guilty judgment.
No further action is necessary on your part.
What methods of payment are accepted for fines?
We
accept cash, personal check, cashier's check or money order. Additionally,
you may pay online with a credit card.
Can I make partial payments?
Time
Pay Agreements are available, but there is an additional $25.00
fee added to the fine. The additional fee is required by State Law
and cannot be waived by the court.
Can the Judge dismiss the ticket?
No.
The Judge does not have the authority to dismiss a ticket.
What happens if I want to plead Not Guilty?
When
you sign a plea of not guilty, you will be given the option of a
trial before the judge or a jury trial. For a trial by judge you
will need to fill out a personal bond which states that you shall
appear in court on the date of your trial. If you fail to appear,
you will be fined double the amount of your original fine plus court
cost. For a trial by jury you must either put up a cash bond or
a surety bond for double the amount of the fine. To obtain a surety
bond you will need to contact an attorney or bondsman. The court
will notify you by certified mail of your court date.
How can I change my court date?
To
request a change on your court date (continuance), you must furnish,
in writing, a request to the judge with an acceptable excuse not
later than 48 hours prior to the set date. The request must be approved
by the judge before another date can be set.
