Q. When is the next firefighter test date?
A. We do not test.

Q. What is the procedure for hiring a firefighter?
A. Fill out an application at the Texas Workforce Commission. They will send us applications when we have an opening. We contact potential candidates and set up an interview and physical assessment. Those chosen to be hired will be sent to the doctor for a physical exam and drug screen.

Q. What are the qualifications for a career firefighter?
A. A career firefighter must be 18 years of age and be certified or certifiable by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. They must have a clean driving record and criminal history. They must also be able to pass a physical exam, drug screen and physical assessment.

Q. What are qualifications to be a volunteer firefighter?
A. Same as career except does not have to be certified by Texas Fire Commission and does not have to pass a physical assessment, unless they are going to be a structural firefighter. They must also live in Titus County or within 30 minutes of fire station.

Q. Can I do outside burning inside the City Limits?
A. Yes and No. Leaves, limbs and wood products can be burned as long as they do not bother neighbors or obscure the visibility of a road. Items that give off a black smoke such as shingle, tires, rubber, etc. cannot be burned.

Q. How do I set up a tour of the Fire Station?
A. Call the fire station at (903) 575-4144.

Q. How do I get my Enhanced 911 address in the county so I can get my phone connected?
A. Contact the Ark-Tex Council of Governments at (903) 832-8636.

Q. Where is the closest fire department to my residence?
A. There are seven volunteer fire departments in the county. Call the Mount Pleasant Fire Department at (903) 575-4144 and they will assist you in determining which one is closest to your house.

Q. What fire department would respond to my residence?
A. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department responds to virtually all structure fires with the exception of a portion of the north part of the county. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department responds to all rescue calls in the county. Contact the Mount Pleasant Fire Department at (903) 575-4144 for assistance in determining what county departments would also respond to your residence.

Q. What is the City's fire insurance rating (ISO Rating)?
A. Our ISO Rating is a 4 on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the best. This number is used by the insurance industry to determine fire insurance premiums for both commercial and residential property.

Q. Can you shoot fireworks inside the City?
A. No. It is against the law to sell, possess or shoot fireworks inside the city limits.

Q. How do I know if there is a burn ban in effect?
A. Call the Mount Pleasant Fire Department at (903) 575-4144.

Q. How many smoke detectors should I have in my house?
A. There should be at least one smoke detector located near the sleeping area(s) of the house. If you sleep with your bedroom door shut, a smoke detector should also be located inside the bedroom. You cannot have too many smoke detectors.

Q. How do I report a complaint about a fire hazard?
A. Call the Fire Department at (903) 575-4144.

Q. What is the best kind of fire extinguisher for my house?
A. A multipurpose fire extinguisher is best for the home. Look for the rating to be at least 2A:10B:C on the label. This extinguisher can be used on any type of fire commonly found in the home. It will often be labeled A-B-C.

Q. Is a permit required for the installation of an alarm system?
A. Yes, for residential and commercial alarm systems. There is no charge to register your system. You may obtain the application from on-line forms.
