Q. Where is the environmental services building located?
A. We are located at 402 North Washington Avenue, a.k.a. the Old Fire Station.

Q. Can you do anything about the trashy conditions on the property next to me?
A. If the property has high weeds and grass (above 12 inches), trash or rubbish, tree trimmings, or items stored outside such as appliances, tires, auto parts, metal, etc., an officer may notify the owner or occupants that these conditions are in violation of the health and sanitation ordinance.

Q. Can I put up garage sale signs?
A. Only one (1) sign shall be allowed for each garage sale. If a sign is used, it must be placed on the property where the garage sale is located. No garage sale sign shall be attached to any utility poles, trash receptacles or in the city rights-of-way.

Q. Whom do I call to report a possible junk vehicle in my neighborhood?
A. Call the Mount Pleasant Police Department at 903-575-4004.

Q. There is a dilapidated old house in my neighborhood. Whom can I report it to?
A. Call the office of the Director of Building and Development at 903/575-4137.

Q. Whom do I contact for illegal dumping?
A. Call 1-877-A-DUMPER (1-877-238-6737).

Q. Do I have to obtain a health department permit to sell food?
A. Yes. Anyone wishing to operate a food service establishment or sell any food products to the public within the city limits of Mount Pleasant must obtain a permit before conducting such business. See on-line forms.

Q. How much does a health department permit cost?
A. Health department permit fees range from $25.00-$75.00, based on type of establishment. See on-line forms.

Q. Do I need a health card to work in a food service business?
A. Yes. Anyone working in a food service establishment must have a current health card before employment. Health cards are issued based on the submission of medical information for a fee of $2.00. Health cards must be renewed annually.

Q. Where can I find information about the requirements for operating a food service establishment and what the inspectors are looking for when they inspect a business?
A. Call or come by the environmental services building where a copy of the Texas Food Establishment Rules can be purchased for $5.00. This booklet contains the requirements for food service and a copy of the inspection form used in the inspection process. See online forms.

Q. Can you enforce having trash/garbage cleaned up from property?
A. Yes. It is the duty of any owner, occupant or agent in charge of any real property in the municipality to keep the area from his/her property line to the curb line or street pavement, free and clear of trash/garbage.
