Does
Mount Pleasant have a "leash law"?
Yes,
an animal must be within an enclosure, or on leash, cord, rope,
chain or other restraint.
How many dogs,
cats or ferrets can I keep?
An owner or harborer may keep
no more than four dogs, cats or ferrets of any combination, over
the age of two months.
When I see
an animal running loose what should I do?
Between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday call (903) 575-4174. After hours call Mount Pleasant
Police Department at 903-575-4004 and they will contact animal control or attempt
to have an officer respond.
Can county
residents use the animal control and protection facility?
Yes, under an agreement
with Titus County, residents can bring any stray or unwanted animal
to the facility at no cost.
How long are
animals kept?
Animals are kept at least 72
hours from the time they enter the facility, excluding Sundays and
holidays.
Are dogs or
cats required to be registered or licensed by the city?
The city does not register animals,
however, a current rabies vaccination is required by the time the
animal is four months of age and every 12 subsequent months thereafter.
In addition, the veterinarian shall issue a metal vaccination tag
that must be placed around the animal's neck. This vaccination tag
must be upon the animal at all times.
What does it
cost to reclaim my pet?
The cost is $25 for the first
day or any part thereof and $10 for each additional day.
What does it
cost to adopt an animal?
After 72 hours, an animal deemed
suitable by the animal control officer, can be adopted. The city
does not guarantee health or temperament of any animal. The prospective
owner will be required to have the animal sterilized and vaccinated.
The cost ranges from $43.00 to $88.00 depending on the sex and species of the animal.
