Retirement
  • Texas Municipal Retirement System
  • Employee contribution rate: 7% of salary
  • City matches employee's contributions at a 2:1 ratio
  • Employees are fully vested after five years of employment
  • Employees are eligible to retire at any age with 20 years of credited service
  • Deferred compensation programs are available if employees choose to participate

Health Insurance

  • United HealthCare
  • Effective the first of the month following 2 full months of employment
  • City pays employee's health coverage and 1/2 of dependent coverage
  • Optional dependent coverage is available to employees for $144.62 per pay period ($289.24/month)
  • Physician within the PPO network, office visits will cost $25
  • $750 in-network deductible ($1000 out-of-network deductible)
  • After deductible, insurance pays 80% of reasonable and customary charges

Life Insurance

  • City carries $15,000 life insurance on employee
  • Voluntary life available on Employee guaranteed to $100,000 and Spouse guaranteed to $20,000
  • Dependent life for child ages 6 months to 18 years (23 yrs if full time student) $1.00/month for $5,000 or $2.00/month for $10,000

Prescription Benefit

  • Generic: $10
  • Preferred Name Brand: $30
  • Non-Preferred Brand Name: $50
  • Mail order available

Dental Insurance

  • Lincoln Financial
  • Effective the first of the month following 2 full months of employment
  • City pays employee's dental coverage
  • Optional dependent dental is available to employees for $24.28 pay period ($48.56/month)
  • Dentist of your choice
  • (2) cleanings/x-rays per year paid at 100% under preventive with no deductible
  • $50 annual deductible
  • After deductible, insurance pays 80% of most charges (50% crowns & dentures)
  • Orthodontics benefit $1,000 lifetime/per person

Longevity pay

  • Full-time employees receive $48.00 per year longevity pay. Longevity pay shall commence upon completion of one (1) year of service to the City not to exceed twenty-five (25) years.

Holidays
Ten paid holidays per year as follows:

  • New Years Day January 1
  • Martin Luther King Day Third Monday in January
  • Good Friday
  • Memorial Day Last Monday in May
  • Independence Day July 4
  • Labor Day First Monday in September
  • Thanksgiving Day Fourth Thursday in November
  • Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve December 24
  • Christmas Day December 25

Holidays for firefighters that work twenty-four (24) hours shifts are included in vacation time.

Vacation

  • 10 days after one year of employment
  • 12 days after six years of employment
  • 15 days after eleven years of employment
  • 20 days after twenty-one years of employment
  • Employees may carry forward up to 40 hours of vacation on their anniversary date each year (any amount over 40 hours is forfeited)

Fire Department personnel working a 24-hour shift:

  • 240 hours/10 shifts after one year of employment
  • 264 hours/11 shifts after six years of employment
  • 300 hours/12.5 shifts after eleven years of employment
  • 360 hours/15 shifts after twenty-one years of employment
  • Fire personnel may carry forward up to 60 hours of vacation on their anniversary date each year (any amount over 60 hours is forfeited)

Sick Leave

  • Shall not be granted to an employee during the first two (2) months of employment
  • Employees earn 12 days per year
  • If unused, sick leave may carry forward each year on the employee's anniversary date up to a maximum of 90 days
  • Sick leave is for employee's personal illness
    Fire Department personnel accrue sick leave on a basis of 144 hours for each full year of employment
  • If unused, sick leave may carry forward each year on the employee's anniversary date up to a maximum of 1,080 hours/45 shifts

Emergency Leave

  • Shall not be granted to an employee during the first two (2) months of employment
  • Six (6) days per year (does not carry forward if unused)
  • Fire department personnel on a 24 hour shift receive 72 hours per year (does not carry forward if unused)
  • For family illness and/or death in family
