Courtney Sharp has been the chief executive officer of the City of Mount Pleasant since August 2004.  In this position he is responsible for the delivery of quality, affordable, and professional services to the citizens of Mount Pleasant.  He is ultimately responsible for the daily administration of the city, which includes preparation and submission of an annual budget to be adopted by the city council, and administration of the budget throughout the fiscal year. The city manager is hired by the city council and he is responsible for all employees in the city, with the exception of the municipal judge and city attorney, who are hired directly by the city council.

Mr. Sharp is committed to the continuing effort to ensure that Mount Pleasant is a great place to live and call "home."  Mr. Sharp has led the community through several very aggressive capital improvements projects during his tenure in Mount Pleasant. These accomplishments have demonstrated the ongoing efforts by the council, the manager and city staff to improve services, increase productivity, and perform their daily responsibilities in a professional and friendly manner.

Prior to his service in Mount Pleasant, Mr. Sharp served for eight and a half years as assistant city manager for the City of Canyon, Texas.  Previous to that he was the Local Government Services Program Coordinator for the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission in Amarillo, Texas for five years.  In this position he worked with over 60 small to large cities to obtain special project funds to help them with their growth and infrastructure.   He is a graduate of West Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s in Political Science.

Mr. Sharp has been asked by his peers to serve as President-Elect for the Texas City Management Association (TCMA) after previously serving as Vice President.  He is currently President of the East Texas City Management Association and he is the past President of the Panhandle City Manager’s Association.  He has also served on the Board of Directors for Region 2 of the TCMA.  He is an active member in the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). He is an active member of the Mount Pleasant Lion’s Club and is involved in many community and Church activities and events. 

Mr. Sharp and his wife Alissa, a registered nurse, have three daughters, Hannah, Reagan and Madison.
