EXPLORING MOUNT PLEASANT PARKS | 06/26/20 |

Stay Safe, Outdoors!

Now, more than ever, parks and trails have played a critical and essential role in the quality of life in every U.S. community as citizens can get out for those much-needed walks, runs or bike rides and still maintain social distance.

Lucky for us, the City of Mount Pleasant parks system is one of the best in Northeast Texas with 10 scenic parks that capitalize on the area’s natural beauty by melding amenities designed for relaxation or action with majestic pines, sparkling water features and the rolling landscape.

“We’re grateful to our to Parks and Recreation team for their hard work to ensure citizens have beautiful and safe choices for getting outdoors,” said City Manager Ed Thatcher. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of the amenities, while of course following CDC recommendations for social distancing, wearing masks and hand washing.”

There’s truly a choice for every age and life stage, from pocket parks like Caldwell Park with a charming gazebo near Downtown to the sports fields that are open again at the 60-acre Heritage Park, Fair Park and Keith Park. Also open just in time for the summer sizzle are the splash pads at Caldwell Park and Oaklawn Park.  City parks also offer tennis courts, a skate park and many playgrounds, fishing lakes and walking/running trails.

Another gem in the Mount Pleasant system is Dellwood Park, which has a history of its own and stretches under a canopy of Cypress trees. As in the days when deer and the Caddo Indians roamed the area, visitors enjoy watching the quiet flow of the springs that for thousands of years have fed into the stream known as Town Branch.

Citizens can also look forward to the opening of the new Mount Pleasant Sports Complex this fall. Located in the northeast corner of Business 271 and CR 1314, the complex is close 150 acres in size and boasts 45 acres of amenities including lighted soccer fields, an innovative playground and sprayground, a concession area overlooking a pond, open green space and trails.
