COVID-19 UPDATE | 5/8/2020 |

Downtown Mount Pleasant At Night

OPEN TEXAS

(En español)

As we go through the phased opening of many local businesses including salons, barbershops and in-dining service of restaurants, it remains important to work together to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

As of today, May 8, cases are increasing in Titus County. Not declining. We have many valued small businesses and large employers that are doing everything possible to protect the health and safety of their customers and employees.  But each of us must take responsibility for our own safety and that of our families.

How to Protect Yourself:

  1. Wear a mask
  2. Sanitize your hands frequently
  3. Practice social distancing
  4. If you feel sick, stay home

If you are feeling sick, please talk to your employer immediately. As we have seen at workplaces and plants around the country, one person coming in with COVID-19 can turn in to an explosion of COVID-19 cases and result in a shut down. Do not be afraid to talk to your employer about your financial concerns regarding missing work. You most likely will find that they are eager to help you and prevent other employees from getting sick.

Additionally, the state has issued guidelines for barber shop, hair and nail salon, cosmetology and restaurant customers, which you can find at the bottom of this page. If you plan to visit these businesses, please take time to read this valuable advice.

Because while we have the quality of life and economic advantages of "re-opening", many facts stay the same:

  • The COVID-19 virus is present in Titus County.
  • Titus County has a significant population of the most vulnerable individuals.
  • Titus County has numerous large employers.
  • There is no vaccine.
  • There is no totally dedicated treatment.
  • All ages can be infected.
  • Testing is essential for isolating the spread.
  • People are still being hospitalized for COVID-19.
  • People are still dying from COVID-19.
  • Testing is essential for isolating the spread.

Here are the guidelines for individuals and businesses to keep everyone safe (external PDF documents at gov.texas.gov open in a new window).

ABRIENDO TEXAS

No declinando.
